New Mexico Witch
I am not absolutely sure of the date as it was some time ago and have no pictures as this was before cell phones had decent cameras.
About 1994 I was a US Border Patrol agent working the US-Mexico border area near Columbus, New Mexico. This area is considered extremely haunted due to the violent history of the area. In 1916 Mexican rebel Pancho Villa raided and burned the town resulting in the US Army invading Mexico in a punitive expedition. The town was taken by surprise, and 18 civilians and army troops were killed and the town burned. The raid was a disaster for Villa as he lost up to 170 men as the IS army recovered quickly and counter attacked. The dead Villa troops were burned in a collective pit and buried. This is one reason the area is so haunted. Besides hearing of poltergeists in the Columbus area, I heard from several colleagues of seeing a witch walking Highway 11 that runs north from the Columbus port of entry.
She only appeared very late at night and when seen would disappear by the time the Agent was able to turn around. The area is desolate, and it is three miles from the port of entry to Columbus proper. I heard she appeared as an extremely ancient woman dressed in traditional old Mexico garb and always had a head covering. I never believed the talk until Summer of 1994.
I was on the midnight shift and at approximately 2 am I was driving south on Hwy 11 towards the Port of entry. The area was under surveillance by an infrared camera as narcotics, and undocumented immigrants entered the IS in this area. About halfway to the port, I saw a woman walking north towards Columbus. As my headlights hit her, she appeared to look up to me. She appeared extremely aged, and I worried she was out there by herself, so I turned around within a few seconds as there was no traffic this early in the morning. She had vanished by the time I turned the vehicle around. There was a ditch on the side of the road but empty fields on both sides. The agent monitoring the highway asked me why I suddenly stopped and turned around. I asked why he did not inform me of a pedestrian on the road. He was watching my vehicle and saw no pedestrian. He checked all the surrounding area with the powerful camera. I searched the area for footprints. There was nothing. The Port of entry also saw nothing. At this point, an involuntary shudder ran through my body. I was informed later that I saw the witch and several others had seen her previously. I had several other strange encounters in this area.
