Ghosts Of Christmas Past
This is a long one, and English is not my first language so I hope this is readable and somewhat clearly told.
Everything in my story is true and really happened to me a few years ago. It was the scariest experience I’ve ever had, and I hope something like this never happens again. I’m not 100 % sure what I experienced was paranormal, but I do believe it was. There’s always the possibility I just had a really bad nightmare. This was not my first paranormal experience, but this was by far the scariest, and after this one, I’ve made a wish (to the universe?) not to have any more paranormal encounters.
This all happened about six years ago on a Christmas night. We had a full house at my dad’s place, and I shared a room with my mom. It was a small bedroom with beds on each side of the room and just a narrow ”corridor” between the beds. I was sleeping on the other bed and my mom on the other. We had stayed up late playing games and just hanging around between the adults. My sisters two kids had gone to bed earlier.
Probably around 4 am I wake up suddenly. I’m still sleepy from only sleeping for an hour or so. I see four figures walk next to my bed. All of them are the sizes of different aged children. All human-sized, but not full grown adult size. I couldn’t see any details; they were just dark shapes. Something was wrong with their appearance. I remember thinking they were human-like, but not quite human and all of them were slightly different from one another.
I think I raised myself a little from the bed and kind of turned to face the figures. They had just walked next to my bed and stood there staring at me. It was clear to me they were looking in my direction even though I could not see any faces. All of this happened fast and the next thing I know is just pure terror. The figures were doing nothing, but I absolutely panicked and felt such terror it’s hard to explain. I just felt that whatever they are, they are not good, benevolent creatures. Next thing I do is start to scream. I’m so terrified that my scream is half muffled, but it’s enough to wake up my mom on the other bed. The creatures disappear, and I am now fully awake and still terrified.
My mom is startled and asks me what happened. I explain what I saw and how terrified I felt. My mom has had plenty of paranormal experiences herself and has no trouble believing me. We are both scared, but really tired, so after talking about the incident for a while, we go back to sleep.
I probably sleep for half an hour when I suddenly wake up again to the feeling someone is touching my shoulder. Just gently, but firmly pressing their hand on my right shoulder. I look up, but there’s no one else besides me and my sleeping mom in the room. You would think I freak out, but not at all. I feel really calm like everything is alright now. I fall back asleep.
A little later I wake up again when my mom gets up to go to the bathroom. When she comes back, she asks me if anything else has happened. I tell her that our house ghost visited me and that I think he was telling me that the other creatures are gone, and I can sleep safely now. I’ve always thought we have a residence ghost in my dad’s house. I believe it’s a man and I’ve seen, heard and even felt him before. I don’t think he is evil or scary in any way. And when I woke up that night and felt the hand on my shoulder and the relief that came upon me I instantly ”knew” it was our own ghost telling me everything is OK. Me and my mom go back to sleep and sleep soundly till morning.
At this point it’s easy to say what I experienced was a nightmare or even sleep paralysis. I can tell you it was not sleep paralysis. I’ve had those before, and I can tell the difference. Also, I am sure I was moving, getting half up in the bed when the four figures came. In sleep paralysis, I’ve never moved at all while it’s happening (it’s called paralysis for a reason). Also, I’ve never seen any kind of creature hallucinations during sleep paralysis. A nightmare would be more plausible, but I don’t think it was a nightmare either.
The next morning when my sister gets up, I tell her what happened last night. She is really creeped out. This next thing is in a way the most disturbing part. She then tells me that last night her boyfriend had woken up, probably around the time I saw the figures. Their daughter had been sitting up on her bed. When he had told her to go back to sleep she had just answered: ”They went away already”, before going back to sleep. This kind of proves me that what I saw was real and my niece saw the shadowy figures too.
I don’t stay overnight at my dad’s house anymore…
